So I busted my oil pan on my 98 Lexus ls400 and was wondering if all gen of the LS400 oil pan the same and is interchangeable? Debating if I should go OEM on this or not as well, dealer want 280+ for it but if I can get away with an after market one then I will do that. Also when after remove the pan does it suppose to look like this??

That's the oil pickup tube. It looks bent but I'm not sure if that will be problematic or not. Did you hit a really deep pothole or something?
Yeah it is the pick up tube I am going to order the oil pan soon but decided to take it off and see what else I needed to order, the pick up tube is actually not expensive at the dealer too so I will be going OEM on the pick up tube. And yeah I sure did hit it, saw it too late so there goes my oil pan . Would any of you recommend the oil pan off eBay, will those oil pan do?
iirc, some 1UZ engines have pickups towards the front, some in middle and some towards the rear depending on the car. this means that some pans are not interchangeable.
FIPG is the best but like PD said, needs to be applied correctly.
From looking at the pic does that look like the right position? I hate the mess of the fipg but if it's better then I will go with that, now what is the right correct way? As I have not used fipg before, that's why I was thinking of just gasket for less mess and won't have to worry about not applying it right
Just apply a nice thin even bead around the pan then stick it up there and hold it in place for a minute or two. Make sure not to over torque the bolts.
FIPG all day. i got a blue and white tube of the AISIN stuff at napa for well under 20 bucks. there was enough in there to do an entire engine rebuild and then some. pretty large tube
I'm not sure what size do they have available so I will have to see when I get to Lexus tomorrow. Got to make sure I put enough I'm putting my gift certificate to use so got to be at Lexus lol
So went and bought the fipg just waiting for the pan to come in. Can anyone confirm if the strainer tube is in correct position? From looking underneath it look pointing the rear of the car a little
