Wondering if this temp is normal for a 1998
I have a 1998 Toyota Celsior, exactly the same as the US spec LS400. I'm just wondering if the temperture I'm getting in the gauge is considered in a normal range. It's been like this for a long time, doesn't matter if I'm sitting in the traffic or driving on the freeway, the temp had always been the same.

That is 1 division + higher than mine or my friends Celsiors. Something must be wrong. If I were you I would measure the actual coolant temperature by a infrared thermometer first.
Other than that, the tacho needle shows slightly lower than the normal. With this much of the RPM, your battery will be undercharged when you keep the idling for long time. I have seen many 98-00 Celsiors that suffer low idle problem and all of them were caused by the clogged throttle body and the air mix path. The problem was fixed just cleaning them. You'd better to try it.

it's fine, the gauges wear over time and can shift slightly from big bumps and etc.
Mine runs a hair lower than yours but still above center, but coolant temp is literally exactly the same before and after it started doing that (mine came about after a particularly horrible pothole some time ago).
Check coolant temp with an OBDII scanner or an IR thermometer, if it's fine you don't need to worry about it.
The gauges themselves aren't even that accurate, if you look in the owner's manual the acceptable range is pretty much the whole gauge aside from the top most part.

I must inform you PD, that a 1998 Celsior is not compatible with the OBD-II. A Celsior UCF30 after August 2003 is mostly compatible with it.
