Default Hood Won't Stay Up....

The hood on my '00 LS400 won't stay up. The warranty just recently expired. I have 37K miles and all of a sudden problems start popping up.

Where can I find some hydraulic hood supports/tubes?

I just finished replacing the hood struts on my wife's '95 LS400 with OEM parts. They were $62 each at Jay Mark's Toyota in Houston. It took about 10 minutes. There are struts available at Auto Zone for like $ 16 each but they don't come with the *****. You can reuse the old ***** after drilling the sockets but this can be time consuming. So, if you don't have a lot of time on your hands but can afford it, I'd go with the OEM struts. If your handy and have the right tools, go with the Auto Zone struts. Check out the SC300/400 threads for more info.

Westside wants $70 and $100 for labor. I told them to take a hike with the labor. I'm a faily decent mechanic. I've installed roller rockers, intake manifolds, etc before so these hood struts should be a walk in the park.

If your car is a '00 and only has 37,000 miles, it should still be under warranty. The standard factory warranty is 4 years/50,000 miles, whichever comes first.

Really? Are you 100% positive? I live in Texas and I thought the law was 3yr/36,000? Is this just the standard warranty for Lexus?

Hey R/T 4U2NV, do you live in Houston? I noticed you said Westside and I live in Katy and go to UH. I work for a dealership E-Universe Cars where I am service manager and we get 20-40% off all parts at local dealerships. If your warranty really is up ( I thought it was 4, 50K though) I can get you the struts from Lexus for 20-30% off. I drive a 1991 and I tried the Auto Zone route. They pop off and don't hold the hood worth beans. I know the 2000s are much different from my 91 but I have always seemed to notice that the Lexus parts are higher in quality than anything you can get from O'Reilleys or Auto Zone. Anyway, if you EVER need anything or just want to use my discounts at the local dealerships, give me a call. (281)798-6490. That goes for anyone here who is in the Houston area or will pay for shipping. Some dealerships give me more discount on some parts. PM me or call me, I am more than willing to help you out! My email is SGillette@uh.edu. I would prefer to take parts orders over email due to the large number of people calling me all day. Hope I could help out!

Absoultely. I have a '94 LS 400 and a '00 RX 300. My warranty books says the Lexus standard warranty is 4 yrs/50,000 miles. If you don't believe me, read your car's warranty book, or check out www.edmunds.com.

Did you buy your car in this country?

Excellent!! Thanks for the help. I'll be sure to give you a call if I need anything. I think I'm gonna let Lexus fit the bill for these hood struts though since apparently my warranty isn't up.

Of course I bought my car in this country. What kind of question is that?

Thanks for the info though. I'm gonna demand it be fixed by the dealership now.

Manufacturers may give different warranties in different markets for the same car. Therefore an LS sold in Europe, for example, may have a different warranty than an LS sold in the US in the same year.

Seems like you were offended when I asked where you bought your car, but I don't see why you should be. If you bought an '00 LS in this country, your warranty should still be valid today with only 37,000 miles on the odometer. You should be pissed off at the Lexus dealer that didn't offer to do the repair under warranty, rather than at me for asking where you bought your car. I'm just trying to save you a few $.
