93 LS400 Dome Light Issue
Just picked up my first Lexus LS400...it's a 93' but I really like it. It has a few minor issues, but overall the inspections came out better than I expected.....I've been reading the forums since I got the car...just 3 days ago and there is alot of knowledge here....very cool & just what I need....I have several items not working.....so I'll start with this one first
I need some help with the dome lights........forward the sunroof the map lights work but the dome light does not....replaced the bulb and moved the selector from Door - Off - On...still not working......when opening the doors only the lower door light comes on........no other lights come on, also checked the door switches and they are moving freely.........any help would be great

My dome light was the only problem: all the other door lights worked. Here’s how I fixed it:
• Remove the lens cover from the dome light using a small screwdriver tip covered in masking tape.
• Remove the 3 screws that hold the dome light enclosure in place.
• Unplug the 2 wire harness connectors.
• Remove the dome light switch by pulling off the plastic switch handle, then, remove 2 screws on the switch.
• Carefully open the switch unit with a small screw driver. Don’t lose the spring and the ball bearing on the opposite side. Clean all contacts with rubbing alcohol. Using fine sandpaper, lightly sand all contacts. Reassemble carefully and make sure the housing clicks in place on both sides.
• Remove the dome light bulb and check the middle switch wire (gray w/ red dots) for continuity from the switch to the bulb contact point. My wire mysteriously lost continuity under the wire bracket housing where the wire met the rivet.
• Remove the wire bracket housing by squeezing the 2 clips from under the light housing where the bulbs are located. Go back to the area under the wire bracket, scratch the top of the rivet, then, solder the wire to the rivet.
• Check all wire continuity with the dome light bulb removed.
• Insert the dome light bulb, plug dome light wire bracket back in and test to make sure all lights work.
• Plug the moon roof wire bracket back in. Reassemble everything and you’re done.
• Congratulations, you fixed your dome light problem.
