91 ls400 help
hello all
I purchased a used 91 ls400 and I can't get it to start
and told by the dealer I need a IAC motor (Idle Air Controller)
I was thinking along the lines of disarming the security orsome sort of kill switch since it won't turn over
and thoughts on this IAC would be appreciated. I am pulling my hair out
Thanks

Sorry to say but the causes of non-start can run to hundreds. Instead of pulling you hairs out, you might start with the shop manuals and do some serious diagnostic. The causes could be simple or complex. Either ways you need to narrow down the causes.

This happened to me
This happened to me when I had my stealth but rather than a no start problemthe car just had idle problems when I downshifted or at idle.It might be different for a lexus.I guess my point is, a bad IAC motor on a stealth did not cause the car not to start but rather I had low idle problems. An IAC motor might even be bad without any codes in the ECU.It will be hard since these cars have their wires and plugs hidden.

TPS sensor
BTW a bad TPS sensor will produce a check engine light and the tranny will never get into OD when you put the pedal to the metal.I had to change the TPS sensor when my mechanic retrieved the code for the TPS sensor( code 41).When installing the angle has to be just right.

There are also some manuals on cd on ebay which some people have liked (some haven't) and occasionally you can find a used Chilton or Haynes manual as well on ebay. You can also check used bookstores, sometimes they will have some used manuals for sale.
If you call Lexus customer service at 1-800-255-3987 prompt 4 with your vin and tell them you lost your owner's manual, they will send you a new one.
Good Luck and keep us posted.

I got the service books, all twelve pounds of them, from books4cars Price was a little less than two hundered dollars,at a dealer they are over three hundred.Let me put forth a warning about those factory books. I have never seen so many mistakes in service manuels.I have not used them much yet,but have found three mistakes allready. One that cost me over three hundred dollars.!st mistake was in how to remove tail light assmb.second mistake was the location of the round code check junction. The book showed it under the hood on one of the shock towers, when in fact it is under the dash. The worst so far was the instructions on removing the rear struts.Book says to remove axels, calipers and some other things that do not need to be removed.By the time I found the real way to get the struts out.It was allready to late.I had messeded up one of the sensors. That cost me well over three hundred dollars.

Hi Espri
When you say won't turn over , I assume you mean it cranks ?
If not , then does the solenoid click when you turn the key ?
If it doesn't , then the starter needs to be replaced.
91 starters are under the intake manifold. A hugh job.
I think mdrag posted a link to a site he changed his out.
Mine is a 91 as well and the SECURITY SYSTEM does not work.
However , the car starts fine i.e. if it had a kill built into the system
it's not working or disabled. The light on the dash does not flash.
I installed my own alarm system w/ pwr door etc. and am very happy with it.
