you should want a lexus ls400 because its what you want.
not to save money.
that money saved will blow you out of the water if you ever have to take it to a repair shop.
hope you can work on cars or atleast be somewhat mechanically inclined..
lots of older cars will save you money, get a 1995 ford escort station wagon if saving money is your concern

thats a different story then
welcome to club lexus.
6k will get you a decent one.....for sure.
I got my 91 with exceptionally high mileage for $1900.
another member just picked one up for a couple hundo.
just shop around. dont jump on the first one you find, get the one that you want.
and I dont mean to dislead you, there are a few "cheap" ones out there, but they are few and far between.......but your 6k should get you a decent to nice one and have money left over.......chances are you might need it for some regular maintenance catch-up costs.
search club lex for any info you need. the search is a mighty powerful tool.
get as much info as you can before your purchase. tons of info here to help you make a great choice.
good luck on your future buy.

Welcome.
Keep in mind cheap to buy dopes not mean cheap to own/maintain. Though they are reasonable buys, they still require the scheduled maintenance and proper gas. I don't know how many times we have gas threads using 87.
That aside, I just registered our '97 and the tag cost was $114.
We'll be looking forward to your addition.

Pole Position
I'm not from Ca. but I would imagine that it cost the same to register any car, whether it's an LS400 or an Escort Wagon. It's the tax that gets ya. Ya need to pay the sales tax to the DMV if you buy it from a private party. And then ya have property tax every year. Don't let the price of registration decide on what kind of car you get. If you want an LS, then get an LS, plain and simple. The repair costs are up there if something major, or sometimes minor, breaks and you need to bring it in. If ya fix it yourself it's alot cheaper to maintain. If you have $6K, I would say look around for one that's about $5K, talk the guy down a little and use the extra $1K+ for some maintainence. Welcome to CL. Do ALOT of research on what to look for before going to look at them.

thanx to everyone for their input. i have been lurking around this site for about a month and i know wat ima look for. since im in so cal i wont need TC so thats one less problem i would have to worry bout plus the AIR suspension is a plus i wouldnt need since i drove a few LS' already and they r so comfy. now the gas i dont have a problem with coz the car i currently own gets about the same mileage and needs premium too so i know wat im getting into already. i just hope i find something good.

I did a typo when I posted mine up...$114.
I went back and looked at my registration records, I paid $211 back in '02. $264 seems crazy.
basically I just registered and insured a new to us 1990 ls400. Im in southern cally too. My insurance jumped thru the roof, the registration is $264.00
