1992 LS400 - weird click/thunk
Hi folks. 92 LS, about 100,000 miles. After backing out of a garage or parking spot, and then shifting into drive, I noticed that the first application of brake after shifting into drive and driving away results in a noticeable click or thunk from somewhere under the car. This is the only time I notice this sound. And it happens consistently after backing out of my garage for the first drive of the morning.
Any ideas?

I get a "clunk" from therear when I hit the brakes especially first thing in the morning and I'm pretty sure it's the carrier arm bushings, check those.

could be a brake pad shifting. you should have your brakes inspected. make sure they take the wheels off and properly inspect the pads and hardware. lack of lubrication could do/cause this.
you might need brake pads. or hopefully, a scuff and re-lube. has worked before....many many times.

Thanks guys.
Thanks guys. I'm having an oil change in the next few weeks; I'm having an indie local guy do it. I'll have him look down there while the car is up in the air. This is the sort of thing that I don't want the Lexus store to look at and then charge me $1,000 for.
