Newb to the world of Lexus
Hello all, just wanted to introduce myself.. Never owned a Lexus before, but have co-workers who swear by them and decided it was about time... so after some looking I am now the owner of a 1992 LS400 (UCF-10).. It wasn't my first choice of color, but it was too clean a car to pass up. 2 owner car, no paintwork or accidents, 119k miles and well taken care of.. like most it has a few quirks...
- HVAC LCD is out (go figure)
- A few cluster bulbs are out (parking brake warning lamp and CEL)
- Error code 4 on Pioneer CD changer
- Remote door locks dont work properly (press the button and they just keep trying to cycle)
- Half dim speedo needle
The previous owner said the timing belt wwas replaced around 90k... "I think".. so I am going to do that and a water pump in the next few weeks.
But overall for a $3500 19yr old car I love it so far.
I look forward to wasting a lot of work hours... ummm I mean "free time" reading posts here and learning about my new mistress..

Lexus Test Driver
Very nice car. I actually like the color more than I like mine. What I really wanted was a white/silver two tone, but the only one I could find was trashed to hell and it took the guy at the dealership(some illegal immigrant who couldn't speak english) about 30 minutes to get it to run so I could test drive it. I moved it 30 feet and knew right away it wasn't worth the $3,500 he was asking for it.
Anyways, i think yours looks nicer than mine:

Hi and welcome to CL
All the problems are fairly common and also easy to sort, easier if you can solder.
HVAC LCD is out (go figure)
Look on ebay for the LCD screen, replace it yourself for around $60.00,there is a tutorial on fitting.
or even $44.00!

- A few cluster bulbs are out (parking brake warning lamp and CEL)
Push fit bulbs readily available.
- Error code 4 on Pioneer CD changer
Have you put the CDs in the cartridge with the playing side not the label side facing up,the CD mechs do have problems and after market is probably the way to go either with a single or double DIN set up.
- Remote door locks dont work properly (press the button and they just keep trying to cycle)
The door lock motors fail ,sit in the car and activate the locks by the keyfob, see which one doesn't lock and go from there.I have more infomation on replacing the motor with pictures if you need it.
- Half dim speedo needle.
The coating on the needles fractures causing poor illumination,I think Jim Walker is Southern Cal still repairs them.

Just picked my first a little over a month ago...'92 pearl white/silver with 192K and clean as a whistle. I love it so far. Replaced the climate control with a working one I found at a salvage a few blocks from my house for a hundred bucks! Keep your eye out...you can find the parts. Also replaced my sawblades with a set of chrome '99 GS wheels. Doesn't look too bad. If I could only find a driver/pass seat in good condition, I'd bet set. Anyway, Welcome and enjoy it. Even though it's 19 years old, feels like it's 10 or better.
