Default First Gen - power steering pump failure ok?

A question: If my power steering pump finally gives way and fails, will my car still be driveable? If so, is it simply that my steering will be very heavy, but still steerable? Will driving be safe?

it would not be safe and it would be noisy as hell. this is not some minor annoyance you can just live with.

and while the fluid is leaking out, you are almost certainly ruining your alternator. better to fix the ps pump than do that, plus the alternator.

Just keep the PS pump reservoir topped off with fluid to prevent pump failure.

To prevent alternator failure, remove it and make a protective cover for it using an empty Clorox type bottle.
