guess where the hoses go!!
ok so i was poking around in my engine bay, and i found 2 very odd hoses coming from the bottom of the powersteering pump/resevoir. one is much longer than the other, and i cant find a place they could go and have no idea how long theyve been doing this. my car just recently started running poorly so maybe theres a connection?
any advice is appreciated

Pole Position
The long one goes to the intake manifold and the short one goes to the hard plastic air inlet hose which goes to the throttle body. If you search power steering you would have found lots of posts about that valve. Please search in the future. Read the "power steering bible" in the first thread at the top of this page. Any question will be answered there. Welcome to Club Lexus.

Air Control Valve on Power Steering Pump
The power steering pump has an Air Control Valve to increase idle speed at max steering pump output pressures. See the attached page from a 1990 RM FMI. deanshark gave you some links for more discussion on the ACV, including problems with power steering fluid entering the intake system and elimination of the ACV altogether. I will also add that the two hoses from the ACV to the intake pipe and the air intake chamber are OEM Lexus parts with pre-formed bends and reinforcement - not just garden variety hose. Should you choose to replace these hoses with OEM parts, here is a link to the info. Welcome to CL.
