Seat belt adventure
So the passenger side front belt has become frayed. No big deal, call the dealer and get another for the ivory/tan interior. Called a few shops and one told me only gray is available. Nah...that can't be. I call another vendor, he looks through the pooter and says, no problem. I give him the VIN to verify compatibility and the C-card for the order. I picked it up and when arriving home, opened the box to inspect. Gray...
It is after hours now so I will call in the morning to see what is available. I find it difficult to believe that a tan belt is not available. Otherwise, I don't know how the guy ordered the wrong part after giving him the VIN.

I believe Oak is the color you're looking for:

How much did you pay for it may I ask? You might just return it for credit. I bought mine online from Carson Toyota a while back for about $140. Current prices are a little higher. I'll bet you'll find it cheaper online than at your local dealer.
You're right though, the VIN should have gotten you the correct color.

Local dealer wanted $230, cross town dealer $163. I'm sure easily remedied...just delays my swap.
Should have read more...the box has the BO color indicator instead of EO. Bridge passed. Been a long time since I was on the Lexus Owners Club site. Thanks for the link.

If I had $$ to roll with, I'd buy some near appropriate Avalon, Camry belts and swap them into the mechanism. I don't have that kind of experiment $$ so my likely solution is to buy another gray one for the drivers side. Which BTW it too is beginning to fray. IDK what is with these seat belts. Of all the Toyota's I've owned, this is the first belts that have worn in such a way.

i don't believe that guy. Call Lexus of Pembroke Pines. They are knowledgeable and have the lowest prices I've seen. Must order online to get best price. Call first. Tan is BY FAR the most popular interior color.
I'm not saying they're wrong but I doubt Toyota is out of tan belts... THIS IS TOYOTA they have almost every part available if you can find the part #
I found it. Try 73210‑50081‑E0 at any dealer.
Driver side is 73220‑50081‑E0
They MUST accept the return. They ordered it wrong. Just call lexus corporate. I'm tired of lazy dealers!

I suppose that you already asked about a tan belt for a 98-00 LS? Seems like it would fit if available. Parts.com doesn't actually have any inventory from what I understand. They drop ship their parts from supply houses. Thus, the online inventory is not very reliable. At least, that is what was explained to me. Good luck.

Wife called a dealer in Japan to check availability. He told her that the US spec seat belts and safety devices vary slightly to their JDM versions and for safety compliance, he didn't advise swapping them in. He was also aware that there is a color shortage stateside and he'd taken similar calls regarding seat belts. I haven't heard from my parts guy but the way it is looking, I'll be doing gray.
The 98-00 may also have a slight safety change so I'm not sure but will inquire when I talk to the parts guy tomorrow.

The 98-00 are different part #'s. This parts guy couldn't make any comment as to compatibility with the 95-97 models. The only way would be to hack them and as a safety item...this doesn't inspire 100% confidence to take that risk. Other way around would be to replace the interior with gray, then it will all match. All this for some $200 part, don't think so.

More talking with the parts guy. Toyota/Lexus has a small inventory of tan driver side seat belts. The other dealers I've talked to agree that I will get the the gray BO designated part as their computer screens show the superseded part #. I'll deal with the color but essentially, to me this is a car killer. The 90-94, their only choice is gray too. If you guys have a hint of wear on your 98+, get while the getting is good.
Next car I get, will have a gray interior. I'm going to check and see what seat belts are available in other Toyota models...if so, a gray interior will keep me safe. Schooled me.
