The year from hell - need help
My daughter (17) was in a horrible accident in December; spent 45 days in the hospital and had three spinal operations. To say it's been horrible is an understatemtent. Of course she wasn't in our Lexus (God I wish she had been). She was in some boy's tin box and he swerved when a deer ran out and flipped the car. That's water under the bridge now.
Fast forward...she was finally doing so much better, at home....physical therapy daily; cleared to drive (and actually a good driver). On her 18th birthday (Friday night). She came home in the the '98 LS400--thought she put it in park, reached down to grab her purse from the passenger-side floor and hit the gas. She drove striaght into the house--took our the piller between the garage doors. What a ****ty end to an otherwise great day she was having. Thank God she wasn't hurt- I think we'd have all curled up and died if she had been. Anyway, she was so upset; just cried and cried. The car was fairly well damaged (no collison insurance) so it's a cash fix. (FWIW her hospital bill was a million dollars - thank God we had that insurance). We need to do this as cheaply as possible so I'm hunting for parts. She crunched the driver's side fender, destroyed the bumper housing, took out the blinker assembly and the lens cover on the headlight, plus it added a two inch ding to the hood. Strangely the airbag didn't go off and that worries me a little. I think I've found head light and blinker assem. on net, but can't find a fender or a front bumper housing. I thought I'd get all the parts and find someone who could assemble and paint....can't say I've ever tried this before though. Will body shops let you do that?...show up with your own parts? Any ideas you guys have would be greatly appreaciated.
I have photos, but they are on my computer...not at a url, so I don't know how to post them.
