Default transmission filter change

1997 lexus ls 400 170k on it. have been draining the tranny pan every 15k and replacing it type 4 . any one know how long the filters in the transmissions are good for?

there are no filters in the transmission to speak of, what there is is a fine screen mesh, which over the years can become clogged and/or broken. if you've NEVER replaced it, go ahead and order one, then every time you drop the pan just take it out, clean it out with brake cleaner, let it dry, make sure there aren't any holes, and put it back in.

no need to replace it unless its uncleanable or the mesh is broken.

Yeah, for as cheap as they are... I would just replace it everytime you pull the pan instead of cleaning it.

Sidenote: Mine was so clogged that the transmission stopped working. Fully clogged. 180k
