1990 lexus ls 400 ( ignition lock cylinder) how to remove old & replace with new,HELP
#16
I got the same problem when my key (working for years) refused to work one day. ignition in lock position.
i called up a lock repair person who came and was able to make the key turn to on position. still very likely it refuses to work again.
I drove to a workshop, had them remove the whole key cyliner to check. first removal was very troublesome as the cyliner was made with security considerations. the bolds, which hold the key cylinder to frame, were very special. they could be tighten ONCE and can not be undone after. the techinican had to use special tool and a hammer to remove the bolds (and replace with normal ones later) to get it out.
the cylinder was still fine after they cleaned and applied new grease.
i think this is not something we could do at home, especially when your body will be in a very uncomfortable upward position to reach the cyliner.
hope this helps
