Sounds about right. For me 70% hwy I get anywhere from 17-19. All hwy I've gotten 22 on a 130 mile trip. I think I can get 23-24mpg on longer trips

Python, I'm running 5w-30 Mobil 1 Synthetic and my tires are all overfilled a bit to help with mileage. 36psi about.

It also depends upon how long your city jaunts are. If you are driving 5 miles each time, which would barely give the engine time to warm up, then 15 mpg is pretty good.

For me,,,it's a combo of everything, city stop and go driving 80% of the time. Tire pressure,quality of gas,driving habits.No sudden take offs from a red light,stay within speed limits (perhps a bit over).I think LEXUS will have to tell us how to get the MPG they advertise with their cars. Frankly? I think it's humanly impossible to do "perfect driving" and those numbers are NOT achievable. What is a realistic MPG number for city driving? I have no idea. You'll notice the MPG numbers now are a combo of both.

Ours sees plenty of slugging traffic, 16 is typical red-green stop go in town. If it turns into parking lot type idling with a few feet creep, worst I've had is 11-12MPG.

V8 mileage . 98% highway (70mph avg) with some aggressive passing on mountain roads here in BC. Fuel light appeared @ 815km (507mi), 900kms (560mi) would have been achievable. Thats 28.34 MPG.

My 98 Celsior shows better gas mileage than my wife's Toyota Caldina/Avensis 4WD which has a 2L 3S-FE engine. The suburb run of my Celsior often shows 11km/L which is about 25miles/L on the other hand my wifes car 10.5km/L. 4WD cars eat gas more than 2WDs.

The Lexus, like most cars. Mpg figures taken from the instrument panel are prone to error. If you need to know your actual mpg verify the speedo is accurate, use a GPS! Assuming you logging real miles, the it is a math check at fill up, miles driven divided by gallons used.

My 99 LS400regularly shows 24 mpg but it gets a solid 22 mpg. Sometimes it shows 26 mpg still gets 22!

I note every gallon put in and the mileage, last 10,000 miles, 22 mpg. I have tried premium, mid grade and regular, 22 mpg..

If you are using instrument panel quotes on fuel mileage you may be right, but very few cars report actual, and the only way you can be sure is to verify it.

Hi CL,

I recently purchased a '95 LS400, 169,000 on the clock, full service history. I am getting about 400-500 k's per tank. Not sure if this is right. Doesn't sound right. I drive in an urban area but I avoid peak hour traffic and I drive smooth, accelerate and break smoothly. I do a lot of short trips of 3 or 4 k's but I also mix it up and do highway driving of a 15 kilometer stretch back an forth with the cruise control on. I do tend to use the A/C quite often too. But still... This equates to around 11 to maybe 14 MPG. I have only filled it once or twice as it is new. I wasn't expecting miracles from big V8 car but I was expecting a little better than that. Could it be running rich?

Please let me know how much kilometer's or miles you LS400 gets per tank? I would love to know.

If this is normal, then I can live with it. If not, what can and should I do? All you help is much appreciated it.

*Notes: The temp guage rises to just under half way withint 5 minutes of driving on average, slightly above the second marker and stays there. After warming up, it idles at about 400 rpm and about 550 with A/C on. Runs beautifully. Smooth and everything. Loving this car so far!

My 1992 was doing around 650km to the tank but now is doing 130 to the tank due to unknown issue. What octain level are you running? I find I have to put mine on a minimum of 95 and usually running 98

If I'm doing strictly highway I can get 500+ miles to the tank. In the city that drops down to 300+ miles per tank.

I only run premium 95 octane. You used to get 650 miles & now only get 130!? That's crazy bad. How long have you had you issue? Have you taken it to a mechanic to check out what the problem could be?

500+ miles!? That's like 850 k's. That's great. How much hwy cruising would that be? I'm not sure if what I'm getting is right or not. Haven't driven it enough to know just yet. When the needle get in between the last bar, it'd roughly have around 400km on the clock. That's driving in the suburbs & a bit of hwy.
