Default LS400 Catalytic Converter Removal?

I just purchased a 1991 LS400 with 134,000 on the clock. It test drove fine, ran great, no problems..Signed the title, paid the man, and drove away. On my way to get the oil changed (habit any time I buy a different car) it starts feeling like it's missing and idles/lunges at stoplights.

I get to the oil change place and two different guys tell me my catalytic converter(s) is/are plugged. Then I noticed the smell...yep. Catalytic converter.

My question is, will it hurt anything to have my local exhaust shop just cut them out and run straight through?

I know about laws, emissions, etc, but this is Arkansas and they don't really give a damn.

Thanks for the info!

not hurt anything to have them hallowed out ...I'm on hallowed cats and no problem so far...sounds wise it will sound a tad different but nothing bad.

wont run properly as you'll keep throwing catalytic inefficiency codes.

Well it's either that or let the heads blow off :P

Just curious if it'll run better with no cats than with clogged cats because i do not have the spare change to drop on two cats and labor.

Thanks!

'95. that's when they switched to OBDII. i had one

and even on OBDI cars you might still get 21 or 27 codes.

Dropped Ellis off this morning to have the front two cats gutted and the middle one removed.

She has been running a lot better since I drowned er in some seafoam..hella smoke screen. Still ran rough afterwards..let er sit for about 30 minutes, fired er up, purred like a kitten since.

gutting the cats will kill horsepower and what little low end torque. you're better off just removing them and replacing them with straight pipe! gutting factory cats leaves a big empty space in the middle of your exhaust system that just creates turbulence....
