Looking at buying a 90 LS400
Actually some friends of mine are, and I do all their mechanical work.
Its a 1990 LS400.
2 things I noticed.
The A/C doesnt work. Compressor does not kick on. I don't know if there is any freon in it or not, I only looked at it briefly. But the LCD display on the HVAC controls is inop. All the buttons work, I can turn the temp up and down and I hear it beep, press the AC button and it lights solidly, but I don't hear the A/C pump come on (its possible its just quiet and it is coming on) but it just blows warm air. Do you think the LCD panel is bad and the rest of the controls are OK? Would the AC still work if the LCD is inop? Is there a fix for this other than replacing the whole control panel?
When in park, I rev it to 3 or 4k, and a bunch of the dash lights come on for jus a second (cant remember exactly which ones, there were 4 or 5 of them to the left and right of the speedo) Whats up with this?
Thanks guys!

A/c compressor, especially on the older LS's were a common fix item. If you don't feel the cold air, it ain't working. The LCD screen for the climate control is also another common failure item. It is not that uncommon for the LCD screen to black out and need to be replaced. The controls will STILL work even with the LCD bad, just really won't be able to see what is on the readout too well. The other lights you mentioned are probably the dash warning lights, same ones which come on when you turn the key to the on position. If this appears while the car is running, it is the first indicator that the alternator is going bad/not charging.
