LS400 Lower Ball Joint Question
Hi everyone. New here but was recommended and look forward to posting on another Lexus board.
My fathers 1996 LS (with air suspension) needs lower ball joints. Mechanic quoted us $390 to do them and I told my dad to hold off and that I would do them myself. But when I saw LexLS' write up I became hesitant with the amount of worked involved.
Is it possible to change just the lower ball joints without removing the upper ones? I would prefer to keep that air bag in place and work around it but wasn't sure if it needed to be removed to get the lower joint out of there.
Thanks
Ed

Lower Ball joint replacement
Ed,
I changed them in my LS400 1995. I took about 20 minutes each and I did not have to loose the upper one. Once you unfreeze the main bolt just jack the strut up and loosen the 2 side bolts. My car doesn't have air suspension but it is the same procedure.
Best regards,
Eddie
