Any one tried to do this? Is it California Smog legal?
I live in Orange County California and planning to do this swap on my ’93 LS400. Any one knows a good engine shop in Orange County?
Thanks in advance.

Correct me if im wrong but wasn't it just the tundra short block that is being used, and everything else off the 1uz will bolt right up disguising the 2uz as a 1uz? I recall reading (or was it seeing from pictures?) them bolting up the heads, manifold, accessories off the 1uz engine onto the 2uz block.... so wouldn't that keep obd1, obd1? So its like refreshing the motor/internals... but I agree, take it straight to those guys and have them do it for you, if anything goes wrong, they would know what to do more than any other shop...

for SMOG purposes the date would be based off of the engine BLOCK itself.
there is a limit to some degree on parts interchangeability as is detailled, but lextreme is pretty good about getting his stuff together.
one major thing to keep in mind is that the 2UZ is an iron block motor, the 1 and 3UZ are both aluminum. because of this a 2UZ block is a whole lot heavier.
