Hey Hey Hey! good thing there but... my LS400 (while in my uncles hands) had the odometer reset at around 100 thousand miles... not on purpose- RANDOMLY! I want to put it back to the right reading... No way it has 38 thousand on it =P. Any way to put them back?! GRRRR

The likely scenario is not that the odometer was rolled back, but that the cluster was replaced, likely due to the backlighting issue that many are familiar with.

I can't stress that a vehicle inspection is also in order if you're spending a considerable amount of money on a vehicle (financing).
Some people get into pretty bad accidents but pay out of pocket to fix the damage to keep the re-sale value of what would otherwise be a salvage vehicle.

Of course you COULD take that carfax report back to the seller, and LOWBALL the hell out of them... Even if it has 215k on it.. SO WHAT?? as long as it is running well, with out any obvious issues, take it to a mechanic and have it inspected...if it passes that test the car should be fine. As sonyman said.. it is probably NOT an intentional rollback, likely the cluster was replaced.. something you wont have to do now.
Now if the car was borderline condition in the first place (crappy interior etc) then I would walk. But 200K on an LS... hell its just getting broke in now.

My LS400 had 120k on the car advertised when I bought it, but odometer read 65k...owner was upfront about it, and was a mechanic who replaced the cluster and that carried over I guess. I looked at carfax later on and he was truthful, the title was inline with it as well (car had about 80k on it when he got it, put 40 more).

Yup this doesn't bother me as much as alot of the reactions in this thread. It only effects resale value..
I agree with the low ball if the car is in good condition, and an LS at 200k is just fine. Took me a while to get used to that idea , that at 200,000 miles a car would be reliable, but I've heard it, read it numerous times, and am now living proof.
For an accurate mileage just use your head on it,.. The car has a little less than 220k on it. It passed hands quite a bit at that 95k mark, but wasn't driven much , and they weren't consistently rolling the odometer back every thousand miles.. Looks like a dealer had it, another dealer, auctioned, then back to another dealer. People all might have stayed away from it because of the Carfax.
That is why it is best to get your OWN cluster fixed, so you don't have this problem.. and those who have sent theirs off, and drove their vehicle a few hundred miles while it was gone -- Have innacurate odometers gasp.
But, it is shaky at best, high mileage, well we will say Medium mileage for the type of car, so if in 'ok' or 'fair' condition pass def. If in great condition, I'd still consider it.

I had this problem with a BMW 535i I bought. It said 113k miles on the odometer, but amazingly the previous owner had the dealership stick a small metal plate on the B-pillar saying when and why it was changed out. Most dealerships can do this, and some require it too. The car really had 170k miles, but it isn't bad.
As long as the car is in decent shape, why not lowball and get it at a good price?
