Post High or Low Beam?

Hi,

I have one very silly question. Are low beam and high beam bulbs different in wattage? If so what is the difference? Can I actually use the same type of bulb for both, providing they are the respectively correct part numbers (9003, etc)? PLMK. Thanks.

On the 1996 LS, the low beams uses 9003/H4 bulbs while high beams use 9005 bulbs. I am not so sure about the wattage.

Inside the bulb are two filaments, one for low beam, one for high.

If that makes sense.

Second gen could be separate.. but I wouldn't imagine so.
Neo,

The low and high beam bulbs are separate. So can I use the same type of bulb in both locations? The low is 9003 and high is 9005. Just wondering if I can use the same type/style/wattage bulb in both locations.

The low beams are 9003 so you have to stick with 9003 bulbs. You cannot put the 9005 in the low beams, vice versa. If you are getting replacement or upgraded bulbs, stick with brand names such as Sylvania.

Post high or low beam

Hi,

Yes I will put 9003 and 9005 respectively, but just wondering if I can use the same type of bulb or do I need a more "powerful" ones for the high beam. I was thinking about getting the same bulb as my low beam in the high beam. PLMK.

it doesnt matter. the beam pattern of the low beam and the beam pattern of the high beam are totally different. thats why high beam and low beam look different.

** The High beam bulb is the same 'type' of bulb. It is going to look similar to your low beam. There isn't anything special you need to look for. Just get what is designated for your high beam.
