Insulation lining underneath hood.
Would it be bad if I took it out? Is that insulation just there as a sound deadener? Does it have any type of R-value to it, like if it was taken out would there be any additional heat that would affect the paint on the hood? Just wondering because as Ive stated in a previous thread I wanted more sound from the Lexkost open filter mod and I think this would do it.

+1 to all comments. It was designed for a double-fold purpose. Heat dissipation, and sound deadening. Your need for a custom intake 'sound' would be very unwise to start removing functional parts of the vehicle.
all in all, no, your car won't stop running without it.. but the hood paint could heat up to an undesirable temperature which can cause all kinds of havoc, esp. in the dead heat of summer.
Why don't you make a recording of the sound you are after so much and just play it in your CD player?
