Default steering wheel options for first gen ls

Hey there CL, Ive been researching the options 90-94 members have on what to do with thier steering wheels (recover, wood grain, aftermarket etc..) and I remember an old old member who got a wheel from an es (the 2000 model) and got it to bolt right on... anyone remember the specifics or even what im talking about? Id really like a nice woodgrain wheel and the ES is a callin.

please dont waste your time or mine telling me to search, I am the search master but its just too old to dig up./

I don't recall any such thread.. thats why everyone went with American stitches and got their wheels redone. I'd like to see if its possible though.. I'd do it.

several of the later model wheels supposedly bolt on but the issue isnt with getting it to fit, its with the airbag. the later models all used different airbag systems.

if your willing to give up an airbag it should be easy to get it on.

The UCF21/20 wheels bolt straight on up to the very last 400 in 2000 , however when they went to a two stage airbag you can't use them , not sure when that was , it might be possible to swop your " guts " into the later two stage wheel , don't know , the VVTI had the woodgrain wheel and I believe it was an option before that as I have seen non VVTI ls400's with a woodgrain wheel .
The air bag plug is different so you have to do a bit of splicing , I'm told [ but I don't know for sure ] that the cruise part is a straight swap .

i want a smaller steering wheel. would an early ES300 fit directly? I really don't care about the airbag.

thanks very much for this info, it looks like Ill be scanning some junkyards for some ucf20 steering wheels!

the airbag is obviously not something I want to give up or I would be going with the great looking fabulous wheel or something like that.

what kind of specialist could I take the wheel to swap out the guts? Im not comfortable messing with airbags and Id rather pay a professional to do It right rather than my best guess.

also does anyone know where I could get more info about the steering wheel bolt pattern (if thats even what its called), if its not available online I guess I could always go to the dealer.

Maybe if you refinish it or restain it to a darker color. Also the fab wheels arent perfect matches either >.<

The wooden wheel in the Lincoln LS is platic. It's not real, it just looks it. I had the sport model with the full-leather wheel and I prefered it much more because it was sportier, heavier, and i didnt want to hold something platic and lightwieght to control my car.
