Optima Red Top
I have a 98 LS 400 and I was wondering if I could switch to an Optima red top battery. This may sound like a random question, but back when I had my 93 LS 400 I tried to switch my stock Lexus battery with a brand new interstate bat and the car would not start. I went and got a genuine Lexus battery and had no probs. Anyone have any thoughts?

which interstate batt did you get? i got the standard 60 month (i'll check case size and cca tomorrow) batt and it works fine with the stock alt and 1300 rms watts of music, havent had a problem with it yet (had it for about a year and a half now). when you had the interstate batt in did your engine crank? or nothing at all?

Thats interesting. The only reason I could think of that a Brand New Replacement Battery would not be able to work in a car is that it was (1.) defective out of the box (2.) Not the right rating for the car (3.) was improperly installed (4.) Not charged when installed.
Wet cell batteries are just that. They are all made the same and work the same way. It's a matter of physics and chemistry, sulphuric acid reacting to the lead plates.
I think you more than likely had a defictive battery, just because it was Interstate brand wouldn't make it NOT work in your LS.
I think you will be fine with any battery as long as you get the right battery thats rated for your car.

I run a red top in my car.
Actually I run 2 red tops.
In the engine bay I run a Interstate 1000 and in the trunk I run a Interstate 800.
Car runs fine with no problem.
