93 ls400 - ac evaporator housing foam on flapper doors bad
I took apart the evaporator housing today to replace the evaporator and noticed that the foam on the flapper doors is nearly falling apart. On my vw it started shooting foam pieces from the vents when it got bad enough and I really don't want this to happen on the ls400. On the vw I just removed all the foam and used duct tape to cover the holes in the flappers and its been fine for 5 years. I don't know what purpose the foam really serves but on a loud vw I can't tell if it made a difference sounds wise.
I'm ready to put the evaporator back in the ls400 tomorrow and wanted to get some ideas whether to remove the foam, replace it with foam from lexus, use something from home depot, etc. I don't want to take out this evaporator / blower housing for the next 10 years.
