Hi! I need help finding bulbs for my 93 ls400. The Heated seats button used to light up (at night) and now they don't. I took out the ashtray and unscrewed two little green bulbs with a white/gray base. The Lexus dealership doesn't know what I'm talking about!

Does anyone have a part number and a price? Is it a toyota/lexus exclusive part?

sounds like the standard bulbs that are soldered into the holder any parts shop should have then and you could try the breakers yard as most dashes use the same bulbs regardless of the make of car

after you unscrew the plastic bulb holder, you can remove the bulb from the base by unwrapping the tiny wire leads. the bulbs have a green soft plastic cover that come off. the bulb is 12V, T 1 size, radio shack carries them in 2 packs (but not shown in their online catalog).


the dealership does carry the larger T 1 1/4 sized bulb/base assemblies that are used in the climate control/stereo backlighting.

i love you. Dealer wanted 6$ each! and i needed one for m radio back lighting, one for the cc and 3 for the trac and heated seats. That would've been 30 bucks for little bulbs!

lol glad i could help, i ended up finding the 2-pack of T1 bulbs on the radio shack website:

that size is used for all the illuminated buttons, they are soldered to the circuit board for the cc/stereo buttons and the trac/heated seat buttons use the small gray screw base that are easily removed. as far as the T1 1/4 backlight bulbs, sorry i cant remember if they are the 5V or 14V variety.

My buttons won't light up either. Can you show how you took them out to put the new bulbs in?

I have taken apart the dash before so I'm fine with that but not sure how to get to the bulbs.


Also does anyone know how to replace the bulb in the shifter column that lights up the P N R DR letters?

So you ended up using the same bases but just replaced the bulbs?

My entire Climate control backlighting is out. I actually replaced them with the LEDs but found them to just be way too bright. I was planning on just buying the whole set of 7 for the CC at the dealership, they quoted $6.71 per light. I think I have MOST of the original bases, so can I just use these radio shack bulbs and use the original bases and covers?

Same question for the heated seat and trac buttons. Those are just out, I've never removed them.

Thanks to mobilyte i saved $30
Just before you go to radio shack make ure you call and make sure they have them in stock. I went to two stores in my area because one didn't have them in stock even though they said they were in stock online.

So for less than 5 bucks i got 6 bulbs. All you gotta do is take the bulbs out of the holders and put in the new bulbs and cut off the excess wire. Easy as pie. Just make sure not to lose your little bases. I lost one. thankfully i had an extra climate control from an es300 that had a couple of the same lights.

Now for your PRND light, i was tinkering around my console and noticed a quarter was stuck under the R so i popped off the wood trim, and then popped off the plastic surrounding the shifter. Under the plastic you will see a little light. I was gonna check what kind it was but got lazy. I/m guessing it's pin based or wedge based. Most likely the same lights that are in the footwell and glovebox( sorry i forgot the #) i think it might be # 74... someone wanna back me up?

Oh just a small warning... the lights i replaced seemed a bit brighter then the oem. I like it brighter anyway but thought i'd just warn you.

Is the shift indicator light easy to replace? I think I got the cover off to see the light, but didn't know how to pop it off to actually access the light, I felt like I was going to break things so I just stopped.

your going to have to pop off the PRND cover. pop it off and you'll see the light. Slowly pry it off and you won't have a problem.

So to answer your question... its pretty easy.

Step 1- pop wood trim off.
step 2- pop outer plastic trim (has etc power button)
step 3- pop PRND plastic.
Step 4- remove wedge bulb and replace.
Step- put back together.

On another note... how can you have a beast like an IS350 but still drive an ls400. I test drove an IS350 at the taste of lexus and loved it. Lucky guy.

The LS400 is such a smooth ride. I love it. The IS350 is a beast. Its comfy to drive but I'm always worrying about someone else hitting it etc... I do have a parking garage at work, but still.

Also I'd rather not waste commuting miles on the IS. And the LS is still so quiet, reliable, and smooth, I don't feel like I'm sacrificing much. Its not like I'm driving a tauras and leaving the IS at home... hehe
