Yokahama AVS dB vs Bridge Potenza RE950
I'm trying to decide whether to buy Yoko's AVS dB's or Bridgestone Potenza 950's. Which ones would you get for your '98 LS 400 if they were the ONLY choices you had?

well...
I used to have the Potenza RE71's on my LS. I loved 'em. Since they are not in production anymore I replaced them with the 950's. I will not buy them again. They track just about every crack, rut, etc. in a road. It sucks. Practically turning the wheel in my hand! Hardest high performance tire I've ever tried to drive in a straight line. It's too bad, they seem to be lasting a bit longer than the 71's did.

The Bridgestone Potenza RE 71 was one of the best, if not the best, ultra high performance tires ever made. This and maybe the 950 are not tires suitable for a luxury car such as the LS 400/430. These tires are best suited for sports cars as they are designed to sacrifice comfort for performance. You should be looking at other tires. Call the Tire Rack at (888)541-1777 and ask for their recomendations, they are knowledgeable people and will help you decide what you need. Another tire to consider is the Pirelli P6000 Sport Veloce, which I have and I am very happy with it.

Good point...
That's a good point. Driving style and car setup will help dictate what type of tire you should look for. I wouldn't run either tire for the average LS with the average LS driver. But, if your LS is setup for more "sporty" driving, i.e., bigger rims, sport springs, etc. and you drive a more autocross style than slow crusing, then performance tires make a big, and positive impact.
I'll second that tire rack recommendation. You may find cheaper, but their prices are competitive. I've bought two sets of rims and 12 tires from them and been very pleased with their expertise, service, and pricing.

My LS is used for slow, peaceful, and quiet cruising. I have GS for the twisties.
LS is completely stock and I have no intention to upgrade. JUst gonna stay boring.
