1992 LS 400 Transmission
Hey guys, my Lexus is slipping out of gear or not engaging when you go from P to D, I also notice that when I pull up my drive way it also pop out of gear. I think I will need to replace the transmission, but I would like to ask your opinions and what is the usually price range for a transmission. Currently what I done so far is a transmission flush and clean out the filter in the transmission as well. I don’t know if it was a waste of money or not but I did buy transmission fluid at the dealer. It seems that it is getting worst day by day. Any information would be appreciated.
Thank you
J

How many miles do you have on the transmission? Did the slipping start after the flush? How was the transmission fluid like before the flush. I too have a 1992 LS with 200K miles with no service.
I having been looking into this flush vs drain issue and I am as confused as when I first started out.

Exactly!!! When driving you are constantly flusing anyway. Flushing is better than draining.
Fellows, a flush or a drain is NOT going to fix your tranny problems. A flush is a preventive measure that is designed to keep your car running like it was supposed to, and to extend its life. Don't expect your problems to go away magically. Yes, a flush may make shifting smoother or less noisy, if the tranny fluid has 100k miles on the original fluid, but that's about it.
Also beware, the wrong type of new fluid can cause more harm than good. Make sure the fluid is Type-T-IV compatible.

There is a magnet in the bottom of pan. when you flush they flush it at lot of pressure almost twice the pressure when you are driving Plus its the cleaner they pump in! youre trans has a very important atmosphere.also it will save you money dropping the pan. but to each his own. its just my opinion hope this helps!

well the car did not run when i first got it, like i mention on my first post, i got the car really cheap. i can say that the tranny will cost more then the car. my dad drained the tranny fluid and did clean out a fliter from what he told me. he did not mention any metal flakes anywhere. would the torque convertor be the problem?
joshnoel - what is this silonod that you are talking. i am new to lexus and i do not understand. sorry.
thank you for the input guy

unless you get a junk tranny from ebay (which I am sure most will have problems anyway) for $500+, you are looking at $3,500 for a rebuilt one from a mom and pop shop, or about $6,000 for a rebuilt one from a Lexus dealership.
