Question

Well , I had this problem for a long time, but ....
The bushings on my upper control arms have been
rattling for some time now, and of course the WHOLE
arm needs to be replaced , even if the ball joint is still good.
Has anyone tried to replace these things on their own ?
I looked at PROTHANE , and other supplier , no avail.
I am thinking of have a CUSTOM one mad at a machine shop
and pressing it into the arms ? Any thoughts on this .

Default I replaced mine on my 90

I got mine from a junkyard and good luck in getting one from there. You could probably make a custom one but that is headache. My uncle even showed me the problem and I don't think the problem was the bushing but a new bushing should rectify the problem. It seemed the neck of the ball joint gets disengaged from the inner balljoint and this causes spacing. You are very right about noise you hear and mine did the same even when I pressed on the brake and especially going through turns.
I am now going through a right tie rod change and power sterring hose change.
Good luck on that cause the dealer wants $250 for that small thing and it is not sold separately.

same problem,
i replaced mine with a dealer item on a '92
prior to that I was trying to find that little part b/c the computer model that my mechanic showed me had the control arm made up of two pieces, however they dont sell them separately
I did find it on the junk yard and had mailed to me for about $120, but when I received it, it was in worse shape than probably mine, so I got a refund and decided to get a dealer item through a friend of mine for $200
My suggestion, if u cant find it on the junk yard, dont cause yourself anymore headaches and just go with a dealer item. Trust me I wasted too much time on trying to solve this without going to a dealer. Its not worth it.

Thanks for the replys so far.

The bushings I am talking about are the ones that the mounting bolts passes through
into the body/frame of the car ? The upper arm can be wiggled silghtly , and the "clicking"
noise is the gap between the two, but is this a "balljoint type" connection you are refering to ?
I havn't taken the whole assy apart yet, so I may be off in diagnosing the problem.
