Steering computer?? What does it actually control?
Hey,
Does anyone know what the steering computer on the LH side of the firewall under the dash actually controls? I'm trying to determine what the symptoms would be if it was faulty to find out if it could be contributing to my "wandering left and right on the highway" problem.
thanks for any help

I haven't kept up with your problem, but just to make sure you have taken care of the obvious stuff like tire rotation, tire balance, tire wear, and alignment first?
Secondly, have you checked your suspension like tie rods, ball joins, etc? A quick way to check would be to lift the wheel off the ground, then try to move it left and right with your hands. If there is a lot of play, your problem could be suspension related.

Ya, I got it aligned and had the tires checked and rotated. I jerked around on the tires while in the air and there was no play in any direction so the tie rods and ball joints should be fine. I was told by a mechanic that it may be the bushings in the steering rack but the diagram of the rack shows many parts that could be called "bushings" so I'm not sure what I'm looking for there. We've got a 93 LS coming as a parts car so I'll try swaping the rack to see if that helps anything. They changed the rack in 93 but I have a feeling that I can make it work, atleast the main unit anyway.
thanks,
