Default What Is The A/C Filter?

My '04 LS is scheduled for the tranny replacement and the 10,000 mile service this week. I looked in the book and the only "real" work, other than an oil change, is for a new A/C filter.

Is this really necessary? The car was bot in Dec. '04 and the A/C has only been used about 5 months. And is this expensive? I have learned to never, ever, ever tell a dealer to "Do the XX,OOO mile service". I only specify what "real" work is needed...in this case, only an oil change unless someone here convinces me that the A/C thing is "real".

I have an 03 and my change a/c filter warning light came on after about 10,000 miles. The dealer changed the filter at no charge stated it was covered under warranty. Hope that helps.

The A/C filter is located in the glove compartment and is easy to access. The filter costs about $40, but the dealer charges $42 to install it. Total cost- $82.00 Buy it from parts and do it yourself. It will take you about 3 minutes to do the job. Did not understand the breakdown of hourly cost Lexus charged for my install.

I made the mistake of looking in my manual AFTER I paid for the installation. It appears to be as easy as replacing a lightbulb.

Thumbs up So easy!

Raja is correct D40, the AC/filter is an easy repair. I can't change a lightbulb hardly, but i can replace the AC/filter in the LS430. And they charge alot for there labor at lexus for the rotation and balancing of your tires also. Just something else to watch out for. You can go to pep boys or some after market place that sells rims and they will do the rotation and balance for cheaper than the dealer. Good luck on the new 2004 tranny, D40! GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME.

Default Question...

When I turn my 2001 LS430 on it briefly says 'change A/C Filter'. I did this and the message still appears on start-up. Why?

Thumbs up Answer for Diesel11!

When your display says "Change A/C Filter " it means just that. Look in the Air Conditioning section of your owners manual, under (c) Air Filter. They give step buy step directions on how to replace the filter. You can let the dealer replace it for labor and parts or do it yourself for just the cost of the filter. When replacing air fiter have fan off. Make sure you look in owners manual for instructions. I replaced my own before also. Also after changing filter you must reset the system. All you do is push and hold the off button on the A/C controls for more than 4 seconds to reset the air clogging data. The " A/C FILTER RESET" appears on the multi-information display and a tone sounds to inform you that the data has been reset. GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME.
