Speedometer and Odometer question
I have a LS460 F sport and i have 22 inch Vossen wheels on it but i do not have enough tire and i keep denting my wheels as i go over pot holes and what not. I am thinking about either going back to stock which i do not want to do or adding more larger profile tire's to my setup to help avoid denting my my rims after i get them fixed.
My tires are 245/30/22 and i was thinking going a 245/40/22 or 245/50/22 to add some more profile and absorb some of the impact.
So my questions are:
Will this really help ?
Will they fit ?
Will i screw up my speedo and odometer ?
If it will, how do i get it re-calibrated ?
Plan B will be to get the factory rims painted all black or gun metal gray as i hate the look of those factory wheels!
I should have gone with 21's to start so Plan C will be to go to factory, sell the 22's and buy 21's but that's a bunch of moving $$'s.

This is exactly why i chose 20's. 245/40 is a huge tire, but I can hand someone the fob without any special instructions. Have you posed this question to your wheel retailer? Because you can use some of the online tire size calculators to get a taller tire, but there is no guarantee that the taller tire would not rub.

I will go there as well but trying to do my research before I do. Most places just mount them and move on so finding someone that knows what they are doing is hard to come by.

A good place to start with the tire size calculators is with the 19 inch tire and compare it to the 24 inch. The 19 makes the speedo more accurate and you know the 24 inch tire fits.

245/40/22 or 245/50/22 will not work. Only 245/30/22 will work for a 22 inch tire. You might be able to get away with 245/35/22 but you'll most likely be rubbing a lot. To give you some perspective a 40 profile tire would be for a 20 inch rim while a 50 profile tire would be for the 18 inch rim. A higher profile tire will help with the ride and some lip protection. This is obviously tire independent since some tires offer more lip protection than others. In your case, it might be worth it to get a wider tire, something like 255/30/22 or 265/30/22 or even a 275/30/22 staggered set up depending on the width of your rim. The extra width of the tire should provide more protection for the lip of the rim. But like I mentioned earlier, some tires offer more lip protection than others, so it might be worth doing some research. A good example of a manufacturer that offers good lip protection as long as you're not stretching is Bridgestone. I run 30 profile Blizzaks with no issues in the winter on my Audi. I'm running a 255 wide tire on a 8" wide rim which is the max width you should be running on a 8" wide rim and that helps a lot with the situation. Michelin also provides generous lip protection on some of their tires. Obviously having lip protection isn't going to prevent you from destroying your rims, but it does help.
A profile upsize will make your speedometer and odometer slightly more inaccurate and I don't think there's a way to re-calibrate it as this is something that's done at the factory, but I might be wrong.
Those rims that you have on currently look really good though!

Found a guy running 35's in the post mentioned above! Post # 64 and that gives me hope!!!
Why would you want to stagger your wheels with less wall in the back like he did ?
My wheels are 22 X 9's and his rears are 22 X10.5's so something going on there.

Some people like staggered wheels. Typically with a rear wheel car you'd want wider rear tires for the grip but in this case I guess it's personal preference since the LS isn't particularly too tail happy and you can fit wider tires/rims in the back than the front.
