Possible to Convert HID > LED?
Long story short, I'm getting tired of replacing bulbs/ballasts every 6 months. Doesn't matter whether Lexus/Phillips or Morimoto/etc. they still don't last me over a year so I just wanted to ask if anyone was successful in changing the driving lamps (HID Lowers) to LED? I don't see a way to get it water tight since every LED driving bulb either has a giant fan or heat sink sticking out that would either impede closure or melt the dust seal cap for the lamp assembly. I *could* put some creative engineering into it but before that, has anyone done this conversion?

Are you talking about low beam headlight, high beam or fog lights? If low beam, I haven't had an HID issue yet with bulbs or ballast/igniters and I've owned 2 460s. Currently my lows are oem HID, high beam is a custom high power fanless led and fogs are the super white Silverstar XE halogen which will soon be converted to fanless LED as well

Yes, I'm looking specifically at low beam (although I just read your high beam thread and I may go that way to match). I have gone through 4 sets of HID's in less than 2 1/2 years, 3 ballasts (1 driver side, 2 passenger) which I can see is a fairly unusual case. Car has no collision history, and there is no evidence of weather/wiring intrusion on the harness and ballast area. Wiring from ballast connector down to switch tests good on both sides consistently so I know it's not the main harness.

I've only twice ever had an HID bulb fail on a Lexus vehicle, and have never had a ballast fail. The first time was on the 98 LS400 and it was over 150k miles. Second time was on the 03 ES and it was also ~ 150k miles. That 03 ES is still in the family on the set of bulbs I installed 7 years ago and the original ballasts.
If you're replacing bulbs/ballasts every 6 months something is VERY wrong with the electrical system of the car.
