Made it to Killeen Tx in about 32 hours. This was the get here fast portion of the trip. Monday starts the actual vacation. Split it into a 15hr day and a 17 hr day. Tired but I actually felt great physically. This car is amazing for long trips. My mind wore out before the body did.

Nice! That's an epic drive. It's amazing to see different parts of the country, especially if you've never been there before. Just little local quirks, like different gas stations, restaurants and road signs. If you make it to Oregon, you can't pump your own gas lol.

New Jersey you can't pump your own gas either. Checking out Waco Tx today, maybe San Antonio to visit friends tomorrow.
We are planning on the Grand Canyon at least. From there maybe California but the wife wants to check out New Orleans, so at some point we have to head back this way.

This is awesome! I always wanted to do something like this and I bet the LS would be the perfect car to do it in. Good luck, be safe.

If you do the Grand Canyon thing try and stay in Williams, AZ and stay at the GC Railroad and Hotel. They are the folks that run the old Steam Engine Locomotive and railway cars up to the South Rim. It is really cool and a lot of fun and that way you don't need to mess with trying to find parking up in the GC Nat'l Park. The Hotel is really nice. Family friends are the folks that revamped the Railroad up to the South Rim. I believe they sold the Hotel and Railroad several years back but their pictures were still hanging in the Hotel.

Thanks for the tips. Leaving Killeen today and heading to have supper with a friend from the Marine Corps in San Antonio. After dinner we are heading to El Paso for the night as a halfway point to the Grand Canyon. Spending a day or two there, then heading into California. Going to drive up the coast to check out some redwoods. After that not sure.
Went to a safari yesterday near Killeen. Incredible. $11 per person and the animals come right up to the car. The camel and deer stick their heads right in the car! It was hilarious.
The car is running great. Fixed the wrap on the roof yesterday with some brush on superglue. Worked great. That is the only issue this trip so far. I will say this car is unbelievable. It is so comfortable. We went for a ride in my sons Hyundai Genesis Coupe, and the seats in that are horrendous. They were so uncomfortable it is insane. I couldn't wait to get back in the LS.

It would be nice to see the LS in a few pics with some breathtaking background, but don't do anything crazy to get the money shots Safe travels!

Awesome thread ! I know what you mean about comfort, I had a 06 Honda Civic and drove it down to Florida a couple of times. I wanted to kiss the ground when I got out. Love the pics, lets see some pictures of the LS in front of some "Welcome to" state signs !!

I'm seconding GR6RR's vote on Las Vegas. Even if you don't do as the locals, you can eat high on the hog and stay in a nice place (in casinos) for some rather good deals. But, if you're going to southern California, you MUST take a day trip to DEATH VALLEY! I've been there twice as an adult and to me it is about the most interesting place I've ever been. Beautiful, natural, intriguing. However, I would love to do Death Valley in my truck. I took the family out there last year (there and many other places) in our manivan, a Honda Oddity. There were a bunch of places we wanted to go, but was miles of off-road terrain. Washboard stuff. We elected NOT to do it, because a) the Oddity rides very low to the ground, the wife has high centered it in sand before, and b) we were on the verge of heading home and didn't need to take chances with our personal conveyance. It wasn't tough off-road stuff, but would have likely bottomed the van out on rocks ... not a good idea.

Currently in El Paso. Drove 8 hrs from San Antonio and we are still in Texas. It is HUGE. Going to the border today to complete my journey. This summer I have been to the Canadian border, soon to the Mexican border, the Atlantic ocean in Ma and soon to the Pacific in California. Pretty cool. All driven miles too. Canada was on the Hayabusa but it still counts.
From here we are going to Sedona Arizona. Planning on helicopter rides over the grand canyon tomorrow. Todays trip will be about 8hrs of driving. No exciting pics today, just the damage by bugs from last nights drive. *****Warning***** If you don't like seeing a filthy LS, turn away now.
Here is the video of the camel coming into the window of the car (not the LS, I'm not crazy) The camel was big. And strong

Texas is HUGE! It took me about 12 hours to get to Texas border from Los Angeles, then about another 12 hours from Texas border to my hometown of Houston, TX. It was a long exhausting drive, I had a 2000 4Runner limited at the time, and a bag of sunflower seeds. 24 hours of straight driving.
Keep on truckin! you'll be here in no time...
