Check the switch that activates the door light (should be near the striker). If that's not working or stuck then the easy close won't operate (it's how the ECU knows the door is open). I had this issue before I replaced the driver side door switch. Cost all of $20 at the dealer.

More likely than not it's possible the soft-close motor is not working. Replacing it isn't too difficult it would seem apart from removing the door liner. If you do a search here there's a thread about a member who did a replacement of the motor.
Also unlike other members, I don't think soft-close relies on the door jab sensor (other than knowing that the door is obviously open) but rather another sensor by the latch that detects when the door is in the first "stage" where it's not fully closed but latched on - this is when the motor activates and twists the latch closed.
One thing I've noticed on the LS compared to other soft-close systems on BMW's and Audi's is that those systems will double check that the door is closed by running the motor when the door is closed. The LS doesn't seem to do that.
Also lets all take a moment to be thankful our system isn't vacuum based like on the S Class The headaches those poor souls face when the vacuum system starts acting up..

The doors work just fine without it. All soft-close is is that there's a little motor in there that will twist the "hook"/latch that would normally be pushed in by the U shaped thing at the door (I don't know what it's called) to effectively shut the door. The electronic lock mechanisms are separate from the soft-close mechanism. This is why you're able to interrupt the soft-close process without breaking anything for example.
