Been seeing a few issues popping up on here lately regarding the ABS units - I realize they are a problem spot on these cars - anyone know if the units can be refurbished/rebuilt? Anyone know what the actual problem is? I've read "internal leaks". Is there a seal kit available? Can they be opened up and serviced?

A solution was that you could buy a used one on eBay for around $700 bucks, but lately I've noticed the prices of those used units going up to $1000-$1200...plus you are getting a used unit...a unit that most likely has the same built in failure that occurred on yours.

I have to think there's a simple solution for something that seems like it should cost a fraction of what the dealer charges to fix this problem. I have seen companies out there that rebuild ABS units - a mail in company in Georgia I believe - but they don't have the Lexus module as one they fix (it's mostly GM, VW and a few other brands). They charge $100 bucks to rebuild those units...maybe I should give them a call. I have no problems with mine, but it's something that may happen to me and I don't want to be stuck with a $1500 dollar bill on something I feel shouldn't cost anywhere that much.

My 2011 has had the actuator replaced in late 2015. The field tech said, "this is Lexus' 6th go around trying to solve this problem." 6th?? The new part number on mine is 44050-50170. I still had the stock brake pads on at the time when it was done. This actuator is now quiet and the braking is smoother, especially in stop and go traffic. I do not know what changes they made in the actuator, but I can say after 6,000 miles of driving, I'm happy. Good luck!
