I did indeed go with the plus.
Im coming from a set a Michelin A/S. They actually were not a bad tire. The tread wear was very, very good. I had put about ~24k miles on them and they still looked really good, but while I was working on the car this past weekend, I looked at the backside of the tire on the passenger side and saw a crack that made me stop what I was doing and order a set of P7 +'s right then and there. I had a similar crack on the drivers side wheel as well, just not as large.
Like you, I was expecting the noise level to be near mute and its not quite there, but as you and Steve have eluded to, it sounds like after the break-in period is when they really shine.
I dropped my psi to 31 cold this morning before my morning commute and it did make a difference, quite smooth.
I may try 32 in a few weeks.

Cool.....sounds good. Not sure if u have read my massive thread regarding the P7s on the LS430 forum......but after a heck of a lot of discussion several folks have made the transition to the P7s and every single person has had a positive experience. I hope yours work out for you as well.

Just like speaker cable and interconnect cable, new tire needs to be broken in to show their true colors. When I first got my P7 tires, it is rigid, boxy and not very quiet.

I live in western PA and we are hot or miss with snow. This is my first lexus. I currently have 15,000 miles on the original bridgestone tires and they aren't very good. How well have the P7's performed in the snow? I was debating on getting Blizzaks but have been leaning toward the P7's. Thought's? Thanks

Mine have been great in the snow.

They aren't a replacement for real winter tires like the Blizzacks though.

I replaced my Michelin Pilot MXM HX tire at the beginning of January with the Pirelli Cinturato P7s. Had a problem with vibration and took it back to Discount Tire a few of times for re-balancing, road force balancing, and load match balancing (all to no avail). They agreed to replace the tires today with the Michelins (Pilot MXM HX, same as before) and no more vibration. The store manager said the runout on the Pirellis was 0.028, 0.027, 0.021, 0.008 and that the first three were probably the cause of the vibration problem. Surprised that a premium brand like Pirelli would have such poor QC.

Really? How odd. Mine balanced right up, have never had an issue with keeping them balanced either.

Thats an area where Michelin excels though.

This vibration problem is really surprising for a tire from a reputed manufacturer. Can you please explain what is a runout? I know what it is in cricket . And why would the values you wrote cause vibration? Could this value have been checked before installation to avoid the problem? I will get new tires before too long, and I was sold on the P7s, and now this...

(Radial) runout is a measure of how out-of-round the tire is. Together with road force imbalance (lbs) tells the guys if the tire can be made to work or if it is too far out of spec and must be replaced as defective. No tire manufacturer that I know of publishes specs on either but the tire guys seem to know what will work and what wont. This is different from weight (static or dynamic) "spin" balancing.

That potentially one reason to buy the tires from a local shop vs online. They can replace a defective tire right there on the spot.

Reviews though don't indicate this is a real common issue with this tire.

I sure hope it isn't, otherwise a lot Ferrari and Lamborgini owners aren't going to be very happy! I would drive on nothing but Pirelli Cinturato tires in the 1960s but then Michelin came out with the original ZX (the first steel belted radial tire) and I've used them pretty much ever since. What swayed me this time was the tire rack surveys; but I've come to the conclusion that they are pretty meaningless. The Pilot MXM HX gets awful reviews (poor treadwear, noisy, harsh, etc, etc) and my experience with them has been completely opposite.

I wouldn't call them "meaningless", I would just say that you have to take them in context. Thing to realize is that OEM tires are reviewed at the end of their life (like your Michelins) and non OEM tires (like these Pirellis) are reviewed when they are brand new. That difference between "old" and "new" leads reviewers to write about how awesome their new tires are, and how crappy their old tires are.

I take the reviews into consideration, the number of miles reported, and TireRack's own independent tests of the tires. When you take all of that into consideration, its hard not to come to the conclusion that these Pirellis are the softest riding, quietest tires you can buy in the LS460's stock size. You got three defective ones (which is crappy luck), but my experience with them over the last 22k miles I've put on them has been very positive, I would definitely buy them again. I think if you had 4 to spec Pirellis you'd be just as happy with them too.

I know im probably out of place reporting here, but I have 2100 miles on my +'s and they very smooth and quiet.
For me, they became noticeably more quiet after about 800 miles of wear.
Im sorry that happened to you, but at least you were able to remedy the issue to were you are happy.

Mine were the same way, they got quieter when they had broken in a little.

You all are definitely enablers of the highest order! I just had P7+ tires installed 30 mins ago. Definitely louder that the dunlop sport maxx i had before, but will wait for the "break in" process to be over.

Now going to hunt down tinting places...

I just hope no one start with cold air intake and exhaust systems...
