Tappet noise after hard driving
#16
Just had a conversation with Nulon the oil manufacturers technical dept and their explanation was that due to the hard driving and subsequent heat of the engine the oil had thinned and that was what caused the tappety noise to occur. Their suggestion was that if I was to drive like this on a regular basis( I don't ) to go up a grade to 10W -40 and certainly not down to 0W-20 as had been suggested as that would make matter worse when the engine was really hot . As I live in Sydney where it never gets below 10 Celsius cold weather viscosity is not an issue .
Going with the oil they suggest is going to create fluid friction and more start up wear.
Even though you don't live in cooler climates the fact of the matter is the lower Winter number is beneficial even on a hot summer day.
Try the oil they suggest and if the noise returns then you will know if it's an aeration issue.

When I switched to TGMO 0W20, my engine performed so much better and it also became smoother and quieter.
