Garmin, 3G internet on LS. Really?
I came across this Hong Kong-based company that claims to have devised this device that will give us more to play with on our LS'.
They offer this box:
They say:
- it allows you to run different navigation systems (Garmin, IGo8, IGo2006 and others).
- it has a SD memory card (standard size 2gb) to store apps & info
- it gives you internet access through a 3G USB modem
- you can browse internet
- you can run MS Office files (they must be using some version of MS Windows ported to their hardware. wtf?!)
- obviously if can plug in a 3G modem, then you can get your iPod/iPhone connected (not sure if you can navigate through it using the standard buttons)
It says you'll need to get the box connected to their own GPS receiver & antenna (not sure how that is installed or how it works). Also they say "The navigation block is installed into the car via interface adaptor instead of the built-in navigation. As a result, the user enjoys full emulation of the built-in navigation with the required interface language and maps of the region of interest". Not sure what that means and not sure what the impact is on the built-in functions, including nav.
Has anyone come across something like that? How safe is it to give it a try?
