Whining/whistle coming from engine compartment
New LS460 owner here...have been through the loop on the wind noise with no luck (will try the triangular plastic piece fix next). Noticed a whining or whistling coming from the engine this past Saturday after making a drive to San Antonio. It happened again yesterday as well. However today when the Lexus dealer took a look at it, of course it had disappeared (hate when that happens).
Has anyone else experienced this noise? It only seems to happen when the engine is hot and after driving. Please help! It's very annoying and kinda sucks being that I'm driving 460 and there's a whining coming from my engine.

I have a 2007 and have this whine noise. the dealer and Lexus Support tells me I am hearing things that are not there. They can not hear the wind noise but I can. I did the triangle fix and the dealer took the inside of the doors apart and sprayed sound deading material in there. Still have the noise so I just gave up.
I would like to hear about anyone else with the whine engine noise or a fix.

I get a whining from the passenger seat, but it goes away when my wife isn't in the car!
Sorry, I am of no help.

pibob,
I think you have told us about your noise but I have forgotten. Does this noise occur when your car is standing still, or at 100 MPH, or somewhere in between?
memphisLS,
Same question?

As with Nospinzone I a have a loud whining, complaining and a noise that says "let me drive" when my wife is in the passenger seat. Funny they all disappear when she gets out too.

When you talk about noise that others can't hear, the thing that comes to mind is "Ballast Noise" and I can definitely hear ballast noise that my car emits when it is in the garage and the engine is off and the head lights are on - sounds like a swarm of angry insects. We all have different ultrasonic thresholds so it is possible that you can hear sounds that others can not hear. It is also possible that one of your ballast is defective and is unusually noisy. To rule that out as a possibility, try turning your headlights off and on and see if you can hear the ballast noise.

I also get that whining noise from the passenger seat but it's usually to the tune of "do you have to use all 380 horses?" haha
I am new to Lexus period. I have always had a love for these cars, especially the LS models, and when I had the opportunity I jumped into one (loving that decision so far). It's a 07 SWB and loaded.
The whining only happens when the car is running. It doesn't happen all the time and that's what makes it hard to diagnose. The dealer told me the same thing that I was hearing "normal" noises, but I'm a gear-head and I know the difference. Next time it happens I will kindly drive back to the dealer and grab the shop foreman by the ear (pun intended).
