Well since you said 745 I assume you are looking at used cars. But in either case Lexus smashes BMW hands down on reliability. Performance... I guess the nod has to go to the bimmer.. but these cars are 4XXXlb behemoths.. I don't see what performance you are looking for out of the extended wheel base 7 series.

Nothing is free... people pay for this "free" deal upfront when they buy the car because BMW 7s are way overpriced.

not if you lease. the lease payment on bmw (and mb for that matters) are far more attractive than lexus. and services are included

when i got my ls460l, a much more expensive s550 or 750il would have a lease payment of equal or less

I had a 460L that I kept 6 months, I could not get rid of it fast enough. I now have a BMW. The lexus was too soft. It does not handle aggressive driving. All the electronics on the lexus lock when the car moves. The i-Drive allows full access to my Ipod, phone book and CD's. The lock outs alone are reason not to get the lexus.

For a fraction of the bath you're gonna take on depreciation and the time you'll spend waiting for the BMW to get out of the service department, you could have installed the NAV override and had plenty of time to enroll in advanced driving classes.

Enjoy the bimmer

The next generation will hit shores in the next few months. If anyone remembers how the 745 debuted, will it as a DISASTER for first year owners, thus I would not recommend the next 750.

The LS won't drive as sporty but meets/beats it/barely loses in most all categories.

2008

2009

hmm, i wasn't aware of a new redesigned 7 series.. i think they butchered it.. so the 750 should be out of question :P

I still take issue that the LS doesn't handle as well as the 745. Yes there is much more body roll, BUT I've never lost my rear end in severe maneuvers.

The LS does oversteer a little and there is "brake dive," BUT is NEVER LOSES TRACTION.

If you want a smooth ride AND luxury AND performance AND great handling, get the LS -- IMO -- no contest!

It really depends on what your looking for. If you considering a 745 (which is 2002-2005my) I'd say hells no and go for the LS460. If your looking at the 750LI (2006-present my), I think I'd still go for the LS460.

Maybe I'm just a little jaded since I had a 7series before, but these cars a just a little "over the hill" in terms of luxury presence. They are just way too dime a dozen. I think a premium luxury sedan should make a certain statement, but certain cars are just soooooo common that they start to blend into the landscape, even with 22" 5" rear lip wheels. I know I personally do not take note of ANY 7series when it goes by. I think a better consideration would be the S550 and the LS460, at least the MB is a little newer.

I know Florida is baller-central so the 7 must be on every street corner down there. I'd go for the LS460 with a tasteful kit, nice wheels, and lowering and make a different statement.

Maybe, but someone on this board just admonished me for resorting to stereotypes. Power Information Network had a study a while back which put the average Lexus owner at 49, BMW at 46. The difference between 'old' and 'young'. And I bet most of the younger owners of either brand are at the 3-series or IS-series level.

Don't forget Lexus' hottest selling model, the ES - the bread & butter brand that ,arguably subsidizes every other one...
