Things you notice on a 3,500-mile trip ...

Since the thread is still alive, I'll add a couple of things I forgot to mention before:
- The "pollen filter" thingy is awesome. If you've driven I-40 west out of Amarillo, TX, you have passed by the Widorado Feed Lot. It sits on the south side of the interstate, and the prevailing winds in the warm months are almost always out of the south. It takes about 5 minutes of suffocating stench to get past it, and another 10 minutes of "airing out" to rid of the lingering smell.
As we approached it this year, I pushed the filter button, and like magic, there was no odor as drove past. Amazing.
- Radio reception is outstanding. Because we like a certain AM talk show, we listened to it on the way out of town, and I was very surprised when it was still coming in wall to wall 200 miles from home. Then, on the way back (via a different route), my wife wondered if we could get the station it was on. We were still over 200 miles out at that point, and once again, it was on loud and clear. Better than any car radio I've had.
Small things, but still impressive.
OTOH, I did NOT like the boominess of the ML when those "BOOM...BOOM-BOOM...BOOM sounds were played on XM. You know the ones - like the low-rider guys have coming out of their Scions. For some reason XM has decided it is cool to play those horrifically low bass tones during some of their promos and spots, and they actually make my head hurt.
I tried adjusting the bass 'way down, but I couldn't escape them. I mean, I like bass alright, but exaggerated bass is just a joke.

First Road Trip
Just got back from our first long trip in the LS (750 miles roundtrip). Amazingly we got 35 MPG on average while on the highway! This was with mixed use of the A/C, but mostly off. One tank with mostly A/C we got 32-33 MPG. The car turned 3,000 miles this trip.
I found this trip to be the most relaxed drive ever! Very little effort with steering inputs. The car seemed so solid the entire ride even with some wind buffeting. I did notice some slight whistling outside the driver window during certain wind gusts, but for the most part the car was ghostly quiet.
This is truly the finest riding car I've ever owned! I still LOVE it!
As an aside, I test drove a Toyota Venza this past weekend. They were proud to point out their new outside mirror design. It was very much the same as the LS/ES. LOTS of wind buffeting at 45 MPH. Not sure who's brilliant idea it was using this mirror design, but it needs work!!
