locking the doors while engine is running
how can i lock all the doors when i get out of the car and the engine is running? using the card key?
when the engine is off i just close all doors and press the button on the handle and all doors lock. but when i do that and the engine is running, the doors dont lock and it makes a beep noise...non-stop!

The only problem with that is you have to pop the access cover on the door handle, I don't think you'd want to do this on a regular basis as it is just a plastic cover, and it would loosen up over time. I look at the mechanical key as an emergency tool in case the battery fails or the door lock system craps out.

you have a mechanical key with the credit card key, no? if so, you don't need to carry the smart fob....
btw...off topic....did you guys know you can pop the trunk "fastly" (jeff foxworthy humor)....indeed, pop the trunk with your hands (not via remote), then push the same button (on the trunk not remote) again and it lets go of the "motorization" function....i dunno if the manual states so, but i accidentally found out by mistake.....hope this helps y'all...

just curious , do the Canadian LS460s have the plug in block heaters ?? I 've also heard of the 'leave it running' strategy ..witnessed that practice a few years back during a winter trip to North Dakota ... Makes sense if it is minus 25 out !!

ok here i go...
yes u can add a remote start to the vehicle an use it to lock the door...but dont leave the key in the car.. if the remstart times out its difficult to get back in... need to remote start it again to open it ..
the engineer had the smart idea of having u take ur car key w/u so no one steals ur $71000 car... they want the car to be shut off when ur leaving the car an start it when u return... because once its started it will run til its turned off... hence the thief could drive it all the way to the chop shop w no worries unless it runs outta gas..
(i just drove from orlando to tampa an back under less than 1/4 tank...)
that said any decent alarm..ie viper! has a smart start mode for low temp issues.. (factory set to 0degrees or 100degrees) it will start the car an run for the set time (1min to 1hr) then shut off an if the interior temp falls that low/high again it will start again.. up 6 times i believe..
obviously dont do this if the vehicle sits in a garage.....
