2007 Lexus 460 LS with high miles.. should I purchase
2007 Lexus LS460, has 237k miles on it... the body and interior of car 8/10.. owner uses it as daily driver highway miles, check engine light is on code it's throwing is for new catalytic converter..
$7k what do you guys think ?? I've read a couple of places that people got 350-400k miles on the older LS
FYI, my wife's mom owned the same car with 51k miles on it and swear this car drives just as good if not better with 239k miles on it ...

The 460 is a well built vehicle and high mileage shouldn't be an issue if the basic maintenance was done plus it drives as good as one with a lot less mileage. I would purchased it for $7k?

Is the code for the cats or the O2 sensor? I mean cats can just flat out fail, but I'd be a little worried that coolant or raw fuel has been dumped into the exhaust. When I say worried, I don't mean I'd stay away from the car, I'd just ask questions about it.
And I wouldn't take the car to a dealer for the cats, I'd have an exhaust shop handle it...they can weld aftermarket cats in...I just don't know if they sell aftermarket cats for this car, but they should. So ask some questions.
I like that it was a daily driver/mostly highway miles. Those tend to be the easiest miles for a car...oil gets up to temp...engine idles nice and low...no stop and go wear and tear...tranny doesn't have to shift very often and suspension and brakes take very little abuse. Tougher on the paint, but worth it.

Thanks for the reply, he's has service records and like I said the car drives better than my mothers car same model with 190k less miles... I don't plan on reselling the car I'll drive it until it becomes to expensive to repair and then sell it for parts..
I could wholesale the parts from the car now and make some money so I'm going for it!!! who knows maybe I'll be able to post that I drove it for 3 more years and hit the 300k miles mark...
I've dumped enough money into my BMW so I'm selling it today for $5k.. so either way I'm out of pocket $2k and it's worth the risk before I sink another dime into my BMW 750il

I do have one more question, I'm in Atlanta so I need the car to pass emission but I could register the car using my brothers address outside of the emission zone and forgo the cats being repaired, my only concern is if it will harm the car driving it like that

Congrats on your purchase, sounds like you got a good deal. It's amazing that a car with that many miles essentially drives like a car with 50,000 miles. They are great cars, and the more we hear of these high mileage stories, the more the reputation of the LS460 goes up.

Only thing i'd worry about is why did the cat fail? To much fuel is really the only reason. Ruins them. My 1997 M3 is from CA. and still has the original cats w/ 237,000 miles. So, they do last if the engine is running right.
