Default {LEXUS NEWB HERE} Extended Warranty help needed Please............

Hi Club Lexus!

I'm new here and to Lexus and would like your opinions/help Please.

We went to pick up our New (to us) CPO 2009 LS460 (with 24k miles) and the finance Guy went over the different services that we could buy with us.

When he got to the extended warranty pitch, he said that if we were getting an extended warranty through Lexus, we had to buy it right then and there. Is that true?

I'm new to Lexus automobiles (had mostly German cars and a few American ones too) and don't know how things work to much here.

When we had our Mercedes, you could buy an extended warranty as long as you had the original 4 year warranty in place.

Did I get lied to?

We ended up buying the three year/125k mile Platinum warranty for $2000. I actually talked him down from $2700. At least that's what he said the cost was. Was that a bad price ?

Thanks in advance for your help!

This was the norm until I saw a post a while ago from folks saying that lexus changed the rule to allow extending CPO as long as you are still in the 3-years. You can find this post if you search. I paid $1500 for 3-years//100k miles extension. $2k is not bad for 125k. If you change your mind you can still cancel for full refund in the first 30 days

I'm in Australia but pretty sure they work the same . You have to buy it before you leave the dealership . $2500 is the price here so you did well ! It's worth it's weight in gold by the way ,! I've claimed a small fortune due to repairs being needed . It's total peace of mind

Lexus did change the rules. I purchased a 2011 CPO LS in December; in May I added 3 years to the 3 year/100K mile warranty for $2K.

While these are dependable cars I have read that repairs are very pricey. IIRC, one of our members said replacing the Nav system was $11K. So, it is good insurance but it is just like any other insurance. If you need it you are glad you have it.

If you sell the car early and ask for a refund of the unused warranty they pro-rate the extended part. I had bought the 5/125 extension on a LS430 CPO and when I traded the car early I assumed I would get the entire purchase price but no. took a big hit.

My 2007 LS460 Certified warranty is up in 9,000 miles when I hit 100K. When i get close I am going to look into extended the warranty or trading the car for a lower milage one.

Here's the current used car extended warranty information from Lexus:

"Current year and past 9 model years old Used Lexus vehicles with up to 125,000 total vehicle miles are eligible for a "Used Vehicle" Platinum VSA. Used Vehicle Platinum VSA Plans are available through participating Lexus dealerships only at time of used vehicle purchase or lease."

Unless you drive over 30,000 miles a year, a 3 year/lower mileage extended warranty would be likely be cheaper:

Thanks A LOT Guys! I Appreciate all of the information.

I actually don't feel so bad about what we paid for it now.

Thanks again!
