side mirrors
Hi guys & gals,
yesterday one of my friend got buzzed off a couple glass of wines and grabbed my left side mirror (I had it auto folded in when the car is locked) and pulled it out to the normal operating position. He never owned a luxury car before and always thought the mirror is folded in manually
Needless to say there tons of gears in there, and when forced open, it made some nasty grinding sound. My left side mirror now is a little "loose" when in normal, unfolded position (if I wiggle it, it move about 1/4"). Also when it folds, it goes all the way in (parallel to the glass instead of at an angle like the other side).
I never checked how if the "looseness" is caused by the mishaps or was it always there. Can someone check on your Lexus and let me know if it should be tight? I might have to need to take the car in for a replacement

folded there is a bit of an angle, they are not parallel to the glass. When extended there is play in both mirrors, about a 1/4 of an inch as you describe. If they come in and out evenly I think your fine.

thank you for your reply.
My left side (driver side) folds at an angle and has no play. The left side (passenger) folds all the way in (parallel glass) and has 1/4" play. I think it's eff'ed up.

My right side mirror had a bit of a play in it. When I asked the dealer to tighten it up, I was told that it's not possible and the whole mirror assembly has to be replaced. Since my car is still under warranty, Lexus replaced it for free.

I just had my passenger mirror checked. Dealer says it's normal. No play in driver mirror, a slight amount in passenger mirror. I wouldn't think they designed one to be tight and one to be loose but I'm told that's a normal state. Go figure.

Well I think a little loose is probably normal. However (now I know) that it is not supposed to fold all the way back against the glass. That's def not normal. I don't think it was caused by my friend pulling it out. It fold all the way in there before this so there's some issue that came off the assembly line with my car already. I'll try to get the dealer adjust it. Thanks.
