Hey everyone--

I finally bought a new to me Lexus, and thought I'd drop my first post. Is a white 2002 base LX430 with Mark Levinson + Nav with 91K miles. It was in pretty good shape cosmetically, and runs smooth. I picked it up for $6200 in a private sale from someone a couple of neighborhoods over. I'll post some pics soon.

The things it needs:
  • Front and rear hood/trunk struts--bought on Amazon and going in tomorrow.
  • Rear sub woofer not working and has been replaced with something else. Back door speakers work. Wires hanging in the trunk. Need to troubleshoot the system to get the back sub woofer working.
  • It only has the valet key and flat key in the owners manual pack. I need a key with remote. I've seen some key replacement threads here, but am still confused if the flat key is considered a master for the purposes of getting a replacement made. Can anyone link me to the correct thread/post to get me started? I also have an inquiry with the local Lexus dealership and called a few auto locksmiths. The locksmith quoted $275, and I'm waiting for the dealer to get back with me.
  • Touch up paint on order.
  • One rim is badly scuffed. Next tire replacement I need to move the spare tire (Dunlop) to the scuffed rim and have the 4 tires (Michelin) put on the best 4 rims.
  • Need to figure out how to turn off the Lexus Link error message announcement--I remember reading it here and need to search it up.
  • Homelink light not working/programming--need to check the fuse.
  • 90K timing belt needs to be done. Anything else critical?
Probably some other things as well.

Any experience with Lindsay Lexus in Chantilly VA? Any other recommendations in the Northern VA area? Any other advice is appreciated.

And thanks for the robust forum here--it has been great for researching before buying.

Welcome. The Lexus campaign instructions to remove the Lexus Link System are attached. The wire harness connections are reflected in the last few pages. You'd have to purchase a new sunglass holder if you want to remove the Lexus Link button.

Thanks very much, Tom57. Part No. 63650-50010-A1 Roof Console Box Assembly (Ivory) 1* is on the way from an Ebay seller. Hopefully it is as easy as it looks. I have a bulb out up there as well, so hopefully I can kill 2 birds with one screwdriver.

Congrats on your new ride. Take your time and try to find a reliable independent shop familiar with your car to save some bucks but also I would suggest going with OEM parts when you can. You have a great car. Enjoy!

Hood and trunk struts now replaced.
Lexus Link announcement and error messages gone. (Thanks Tom57.) Waiting for the OEM button replacement to come in the mail.

Now shopping for a good quote on the timing belt. Only shop open today (Japanese auto specialist who does my Dad's Honda) quoted $1100 on the phone.
The 5 others I tried today were all closed/didn't answer.

BTW, somewhat in response to the other thread posted by Bocatrip about the young whippersnappers buying up all the decent LS430s, I just wanted to say I turned 48 this week.

Here are the pics I just took...

Dave,

The Lexus dealer in Chantilly, VA is Pohanka Lexus. Lindsey is in Alexandria. I have been a customer at Pohanka Lexus for over 20 years and the guys to see in Service are Shane Tabit, the day Service Mgr or Doug Moultrie the Service Director. Tell Them Phil sent you.

Dave, The complete timing belt & water pump kit is available here > https://www.amazon.com/Aisin-TKT-021...ype=automotive
Get quotes from Indy shop for labor only. Pick up a new thermostat and seal as well since the t-stat is removed for the timing belt replacement.

Great advice again, Tom57. I will be calling a half dozen shops in the area for labor only quotes when they open tomorrow. Do you have a link to a thermostat and seal you would recommend?

You may also want to replace the coolant, rather than re-use the drained fluid. This is concentrated > https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004SL84Z0/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=3O077ZRFTBQ0V&coliid=I14TOU6D1BBDME mix only with distilled water 50-50 mixture.
