2006 LS430 question (TPMS)
Hello guys,
I test drove a 2006 LS430 yesterday with about 115k... the owner took pretty good care of the car with most of the maintenance on record. Anyway it had aftermarket 3 piece wheels and while i was test driving it the TPMS light was always on. The owner said its been on for a little while and she forgot how to reset it the light.
Does this light stay on until i replace them with OEM wheels? or is it able to have aftermarket wheels? I'm not familiar with how the abs type tpms sensor works. Could the TPMS light be on due to a issue with the ABS?

Lexus actually calls this feature Tire Pressure Warning System (TPWS). The system may need to be re-initiated. Here are a couple of Service Bulletins on this topic.

so is it safe to say that this is a non issue? I plan to make a formal offer for the car today.

It's safe to say either it needs to be reset or a TPWS sensor needs to be replaced. As rkw noted, the system is not a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS). The system is somewhat rudimentary based upon tire rotation, not actual air pressure in the tires.

Not the type of 3pc wheels you're thinking about.. its the kind that people buy that don't know anything about offsets just for the sake of having "expensive" wheels. I have attached a picture for you When i asked about the OEM wheels she said that she let the shop keep them for free because she didn't want them anymore
