Default Replacing the stock ML with polk db840

HELLO Fellow Lexceees,

My question is ....have anyone replaced there blown ML sub with a polk db840....? I just did it and when I turn the volunm up,the music cuts off then comes back on!! The shop that did the work told me it's because the stock system is only 2ohms and the polk is 8 ohms. they said I needed a amp class D at lease 200 watts to fix the problem, but they can't guarantee that it will work because of the stock system in my 03 LS430..I ordered a kicker amp 300watt class d...did this happen to anybody else?

My understanding is stock is 16 ohms. You need a dual voice coil speaker wired in series to achieve 16 ohm matching impedance.

I guess nobody successfully took an after market amp and subwoofer and made it work with the stock amp and NAV setup....or have they? I aready had the polk sub installed and I'm just waiting on the "kicker amp" to arrive to see if they can get my system to stop shutting off when I give it alittle volunm. Any advice would be helpful.

It has been done many times. Any competent audio shop should be able to tap into the audio signal for the new amp. Does your new Kicker amp have high level inputs?

Well that didnt answer my question but I guess I can search it and find out.

According to sonicelectronics it has speaker-level or high level inputs so it should be no issue to get it to work. If your audio shop cant figure this out take your equipment and money and run as far away from that place as possible.

Make sure you wire the Polk Audio sub for 8ohm. It shows how to do it in istruction manual that comes with the sub. I did and have no cutting off at any volume.

He has an aftermarket amp that he is going to install so this shouldnt be an issue after that.

For those that have dont this swap how do you rate the sub? Mine is blown and I'm considering replacing the sub or buying a surround. It seems someone has glued the sub before so for the money I'm wondering if just putting a new sub would be more efficient at this point
