Wood Trim or Plastic

Definitely real wood, and it's easily apparent (in my eyes at least). Also, Lexus claimed that all the wood in each LS430 was from the same tree so the grain patterns would match (which they do).
The plastic crap is stuff you'd find in cheaper, semi-luxury cars. My old Infiniti I35 and Acura TL had fake wood. It looked nice but you could definitely tell it wasn't real. The LS real wood is a night and day difference. Knock on the wood in your car then try it on a cheaper car with the simulation stuff.

The steering wheel link was posted just to show the extent Lexus goes.
The real wood is laid over a plastic backing. This is why you see plastic on the back and sides. It would not be smart nor durable to design the whole trim piece out of solid wood. You can polish the scratches out of your trim pieces as well.

I always thought it was real wood veneer in the LS, and it's a beautiful grain.
I never understood though why automakers used fake wood. To me, either make it real or put something else in it's place like stitched leather. I can tell it's fake wood 99% of the time. And even a real wood veneer is not that expensive for most models, unless your talking about covering the car in it.
I remember having an Infiniti and it had some fake wood trim on a small panel about the size of your hand on the console. To have used real wood veneer would have probably been something like $15 more, seems a dumb way to cut costs for a luxury car as it screams cheap.
American carmakers though used to use that absolute worst fake looking wood trim, it's like wood from a cartoon.

All you have to do is look at the Lexus LS specs to know and be assured that it's true wood. The finish is so perfect that some assume it is plastic. Assumptions vs facts? Take your choice.

Totally wrong. As others have said, the LS430 does have real wood trim, as all Lexus vehicles do. Many many other cars also have genuine wood trim, it's not an uncommon thing on luxury cars at all.
